THE “DOWN-LOW” ON SOFT DRINKS

I have been asked by many people to re-run this article…Well, here it is…Enjoy a nice big glass of pure, clean water while reading…ok?


Research has recently shown that there is no doubt about it: Over consumption of sodas and sweet drinks has fueled the obesity epidemic. In fact one independent, peer reviewed study that was found in the British medical journal The Lancet showed that 12 year olds that drank soft drinks regularly were more likely to be overweight than those who didn’t. In fact, it also showed that each additional serving INCREASED THE RISK OF OBESITY BY 60%!!!---WOW!! That’s incredible. Now, you may think that you are “safe” because you consume soft drinks made with the sugar substitute Splenda.. Don’t be fooled….there is a whole list of risks involved with that…which we will deal with next week. For now, let’s take a look at why drinking soft drinks on a regular basis is so dangerous to your health.

• One soda per day increases the risk of diabetes by 85 percent
• Soda has been shown to cause DNA damage. This is due to the fact that sodium benzoate is a common preservative found in soft drinks. It has the ability to switch off vital parts of your DNA. This could eventually lead to diseases such as Parkinsons and cirrhosis of the liver.
• Just one extra can of soda a day can add as much as 15 pounds to your weight over the course of a single year!!
• Soft drinks contain a high level of phosphoric acid. This interferes with the body’s ability to use calcium, which leads to softening of the bones & teeth and osteoporosis.
• We know that sugar increases insulin levels…which has been proven to contribute to high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, premature aging, high blood pressure & obviously weight gain.
• As for choosing “diet” drinks over regular high-sugar choices, aspartame has been linked to over 92 different side affects including brain tumors, epilepsy, birth defects and emotional disorders.

Well, that is pretty much the “down-low” on soft drinks. If you and your family can stop the soft drink habit….it is a great step toward improving your health. Again, like taking on your healthy approach to eating, it is going to be difficult at first …but looking at the “big picture” , it is no doubt worth it. Drink more “pure” water. Tap water anymore tends to contain chlorine, lead and various other pollutants. A better choice is reputable bottled drinking water. There is NO reason for anyone to consume these dangerous soft drinks—NONE!! By making the very simple decision to eliminate soft drinks from you and your families diet, you are taking a huge step to lower the risk of many health problems. Go ahead!
